Description

Burrow Wild is a painted 2D action adventure about a small, fierce cat in a vast magical wilderness. Somewhere above the northern ridge hangs the Glass Menagerie, a palace held aloft by captive storms, where an obsessive Collector keeps every wonder it can catch. Its cages take the valley's weather, its water and its little wandering spirits. The cat escapes one of those cages. The storm wisp that helped does not.

The journey runs through one connected valley: snowy woods, a sanctuary among the roots of an old tree, a drowned town under a giant bell, an orchard of ember fruit, and a stair that climbs into the sky. Each region hides passages, optional trials and places behind places, and each has creatures far larger than a cat. Combat is precise and acrobatic, built one tell at a time: read the wind-up, find the window, answer with claws.

Every wisp rescued on the way finds its own path home to the Sanctuary and settles in, and the place changes with them. Rain makes a pond, moss dresses the ruins, thunder wakes a roost. The more the cat brings home, the more alive home becomes.

Features

History

Burrow Wild started in 2026 as a small side-scrolling prototype about a cat in a hooded cloak. The combat came first, then the painted forest, then the valley around it. The name was chosen in September 2026 and the game is in development for a Steam Early Access launch, with the world designed to keep growing after it.

About the developer

Sam Mayell is an independent game developer in Wellington, New Zealand. Burrow Wild is being made by a very small team with a single, stubborn idea: the game has to be fun before it is anything else. Sam's other game, Grumpy Dungeon, is on Steam.
